Voting Rights Now!
Using strategic protest to move President Biden on voting rights
If you can't protest your "friends," who can you protest? In 2021, I worked with People For the American Way to organize a series of protests calling on President Biden to do everything he could to get voting rights legislation passed.
We worked with Martin Luther King III and MLK's granddaughter, Yolanda King, the League of Women Voters, Black Voters Matter, the Future Coalition, Declaration for American Democracy, Worker's Circle, and more to hold a series of protests outside of the White House to put public pressure on President Biden to use his power to get voting rights legislation passed. We escalated from quiet protests to getting dozens of activists arrested in front of the White House.
While legislation didn't get passed, we did succeed in moving President Biden: because of our public pressure campaign, his press secretary was asked about his stance on voting rights in a White House press briefing.
I did the design work on all of the major signage and organized the young people who attended the young-person focused protest in the fall.
